CANTON — Superintendent Derek Folan, Canton High School Principal Jeff Sperling and Visual Arts Coordinator Patricia Palmer are pleased to announce that 50 Canton High School (CHS) students were recognized in the “Perceptions” art exhibition at Patriot Place Artist’s Studio & Gallery this past April.

Work by students in grades Pre-K-12 will also be on display during a district-wide Art Show later this month.

CHS students had their artwork on display at Patriot Place in Foxborough from April 28-30. Students were able to share their work in a gallery setting. The artwork included a range of mediums, including photography, painting, printmaking and ceramics.

On Saturday, April 29 the Canton Visual Arts Department hosted an artists’ reception at the Patriot Place location for students and their families to enjoy the artwork.

Spring Art Show

Students, families and community members are also invited to attend the annual district Art Show later this month.

The event will be held Monday, May 22 through Thursday, May 25 from 6-8 p.m. each day in the Canton High School Gymnasium, 900 Washington St.

Canton Public Schools students in Pre-K-12 will have artwork on display. Work by the Scholastic Art & Writing Award recipients will also be featured.

In addition to the displays, CHS students will host open studio activities, which will include an air-dry clay studio, making photograms in the darkroom, an origami workshop and video production. Children who attend will also be able to get their face painted.

Materials for the art show were generously funded by the Mass Cultural Council (MCC) in conjunction with the Canton Cultural Council. The MCC is a state agency that promotes excellence, inclusion, education, and diversity in the arts, humanities, and sciences. The MCC fosters a rich cultural life for all Massachusetts residents and contributes to the vitality of communities and the economy. The Council pursues this mission through a wide range of grants, initiatives, and advocacy for artists, communities, organizations, and schools.

“It is an honor to have our students’ work recognized at a local gallery event and I congratulate all of the students who participated in the ‘Perceptions’ exhibition,” Palmer said. “We are also looking forward to welcoming families and community members to the district art show later this month. It is always great to see students’ creativity and unique perspectives come to life through their artwork.”
