SOUTHBRIDGE — Southbridge Public Schools is delighted to announce the successful completion of the National Honor Society and National Junior Honor Society induction ceremonies at Southbridge Middle School and Southbridge High School, respectively.
Both events celebrated the academic achievements and community involvement of outstanding middle and high school students in the district.
Southbridge Middle School’s National Junior Honor Society induction ceremony took place on March 21. The event recognized the exceptional middle school students who have demonstrated excellence in scholarship, leadership, service, character, and citizenship. Families, teachers, and administrators gathered to celebrate the accomplishments of the 33 inductees.
Students came forward to share an overview of each of the five pillars, and a student-selected quote that they felt exemplified the pillar. Each student then lit a candle to represent the light each of those characteristics brings to the school. Ozacia Grant talked about Scholarship; Sophia Metcalf talked about Service; Zeniel Rodriguez talked about Leadership; Leilani Rohena Torres talked about Character; and Jennessa Sepuka talked about Citizenship.
Southbridge High School’s National Honor Society induction ceremony occurred on March 16. The ceremony welcomed a new group of high-achieving high school students who have shown exceptional dedication to academics, leadership, and community service. The event featured speeches from school administrators, current NHS members, and the newly-inducted students, who shared their experiences and future aspirations.
The school welcomed six students as newly-inducted members: Joshua Aupont, Ava Tougas, Oscar Vazques, Kayli Haskins, Mason Nichols, and Eri Diaz. There are currently 17 members of NHS who were inducted last year, after a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic.
Both ceremonies were a testament to the hard work and dedication of the students, faculty, and staff in the district. The new inductees of the National Junior Honor Society and National Honor Society will continue to uphold the values of scholarship, leadership, service, character, and citizenship in their respective schools and the local community.
