BOURNE — Following a strong performance during the preliminary round on Saturday, March 4, the Bourne High School Drama Club has qualified for a spot in the semi-final round of the Massachusetts Educational Theater Guild (METG) High School Drama Festival.
“Advancing to the semi-finals round is a huge honor and a testament to the dedication and creativity of those both on stage and behind the scenes,” said Superintendent Kerri Anne Quinlan-Zhou. “The Bourne High School Drama productions are consistently excellent from year to year and we wish the cast and crew of ‘Ada and the Engine’ a great performance this weekend.”
In keeping with tradition, Bourne High School hosted seven schools during the preliminary round of the competition.
In addition to advancing to regionals, individual BHS students were recognized for the following:
- Excellence in Acting – Cooper White
- Excellence in Acting – Quinn Hawkes
- Excellence in Scenic Design – Scott LaFleur and Matthew Burr
- Excellence in Music Composition – Aspen Langley
- Excellence in Costume Design – Noah Baker, Caroline Lane, Noah Baker, Caroline Lane, Sonja Poley, Isabella Correa, Natalie Galisa and Gemma Gray
The METG David Dooley Unsung Hero Award was presented to students Krista Nee and Madison Sexton for their contributions which made Bourne High School a more welcoming and efficient site for those visiting.
The Bourne High School Drama Club will be performing “Ada and the Engine” in the Semi-Final round at Framingham High School, located at 105 A St. on Saturday, March 18. The performance is scheduled for 9 a.m. Tickets are $10 and will provide audience members admission to all shows for the day. BHS will be competing alongside Norwell High School, Acton-Boxborough Regional High School, Stoneham High School, Swampscott High School, Cambridge Rindge and Latin School and Peabody Veterans Memorial High School.
Bourne High School will host an additional send-off performance/benefit performance on Friday, March 17 at 7 p.m. in the Beth Bourne Auditorium. For this community performance, there will be a suggested $5 donation.
The Massachusetts Educational Theater Guild’s High School Drama Festival is a competitive program that includes 112 one-act plays produced by member high schools. The competition is typically organized across three levels: preliminary, semi-final, and state finals. Student excellence in acting and technical design is recognized at each level.
“I want to recognize the dedicated students and staff who work incredibly hard each year to put on a successful Bourne High School Drama Club performance,” said Director Tristan Burke. “I could not be more proud of these young performers and I couldn’t think of a group of students more deserving.”
For this year’s festival, Bourne High School Drama submitted “Ada and the Engine.”
