Groton Fire Department Delivers Baby Boy

GROTON — Fire Chief Arthur Cheeks is pleased to share that the Groton Fire Department helped to safely deliver a baby boy on Saturday afternoon.

At about 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 2, Groton Fire was dispatched to the parking lot of a local business after a woman reported being in labor. A Groton engine crew in the vicinity responded to the call.

With assistance from Groton Fire Lt. Tyler Shute, Firefighter-EMT Chris Braun and EMT Gibson McCullagh, a baby boy was safely delivered in the mother’s vehicle.

Groton Fire transported the mother and baby to UMass Worcester, and both are reportedly doing well.

Groton Police and Littleton Fire also responded on scene.

“The Groton Fire Department would like to congratulate the family on their new addition, and commend Lt. Shute, Firefighter Braun and EMT McCullagh and all other responders, who helped ensure a safe birth in challenging circumstances,” said Chief Cheeks. “We are pleased to hear that mom and baby are recovering well. It is an honor to be able to provide care to people in the most pivotal, positive moments of their lives.”
