GLOUCESTER — Fire Chief Eric Smith is pleased to report that members of the Gloucester Fire Department Honor Guard presented the nation’s colors at a Boston Celtics game at the TD Garden.
On Friday, April 11, members of the Gloucester Fire Department Honor Guard accepted an invitation from the Boston Celtics to present the colors during pregame ceremonies at the TD Garden.
Members who presented the colors were Capt. Kevin Gargan, Lt. Jim Hannon, Firefighter Joe Johnson, Capt. Nick Ouellette, Firefighter Ishi King and Lt. Tom Sayess. They are among the 23 active members of the Gloucester Fire Department Honor Guard, which includes members from across all three of the department’s groups as well as the administration.
The Honor Guard has presented the colors at professional sporting events in the past, including at Celtics, Patriots, and Red Sox games. The Honor Guard also frequently represents the department at funerals, community events, and special events.
“The Gloucester Fire Department Honor Guard is a great group that steps up time after time for funerals and special events alike,” said Chief Smith. “I am very proud of them for constantly giving back, to not only our firefighting families during their times of grief, but also to our nation at these major broadcast sporting events. They are true professionals that represent the fire service extremely well.”
