GROTON — Fire Chief Arthur Cheeks reports that the Groton Fire Department responded to and extinguished an electrical fire in a home Monday night.
On Monday, Sept. 7, at approximately 8:55 p.m., Groton Fire responded to a home on Maple Ave for reports of a fire.
Upon arrival, crews were able to locate the fire, which appeared to have started in the walls of the home. Firefighters opened the walls to locate the flames and mitigate the spread.
Residents of the home were able to exit the home prior to firefighters’ arrival.
The fire was knocked down at 9:15 p.m., and the scene was cleared at about 10: 04 p.m.
The home’s residents have been temporarily displaced. There were no reported injuries.
Mutual aid from Shirley, Ayer, and Townsend Fire Departments was called for and later canceled due to the quick actions by Groton Firefighters on scene. Pepperell Fire provided station coverage.
Groton Electric Light Department also responded to the scene.
“I want to acknowledge our firefighters for their quick response and for preventing the fire from spreading further into the home,” said Chief Cheeks. “Due to their immediate actions, there was only minimal damage to the home, and residents should be able to return soon.”
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Groton Fire Department.
