Newburyport Fire Department On Scene of Three-Alarm Fire at Chemical Plant

NEWBURYPORT — Interim Chief Stephen Hamilton reports that the Newburyport Fire Department is on scene at a three-alarm fire at a chemical plant. 

On Friday, Oct. 23, at approximately 11:10 p.m., Newburyport Fire responded to a chemical plant at 7 Mulliken Way for reports of an active fire. 

Upon arrival, crews observed heavy smoke coming from the structure. As it is a chemical facility, a hazardous materials incident was also declared. 

The Massachusetts Department of Fire Services Hazardous Materials Emergency Response Division team also responded to the scene.  

Crews remain on scene at this time. 

This is an active incident, and more information will be shared when it becomes available.
