Maynard Public Schools Awarded $110,000 Grant to Strengthen Literacy Instruction

MAYNARD — Superintendent Brian Haas is pleased to share that Maynard Public Schools has been awarded a $110,000 Partnership for Reading Success- Massachusetts (PRISM) II grant from the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE).

The district will use the grant to evaluate, select, purchase, launch, and implement high-quality instructional materials for pre-K through third grade.

Maynard Public Schools was one of 71 school districts to receive this award, highlighting the district’s commitment to delivering high-quality materials, benefiting both students and instructors.

The new materials will follow an evidence-based approach, focusing on literacy instruction and educators’ professional learning.

Due to the evidence-based approach, Maynard Public Schools has already collected data highlighting the need for this grant to support pre-K through third grade. The grant will support stronger alignment and communication between early childhood providers and the public schools, helping to build smoother transitions, shared goals, and consistent instructional strategies that address gaps before kindergarten. 

By joining PRISM II, Maynard Public Schools will gain the expertise, resources, and support needed to unify its literacy system, strengthen teacher practice, and implement consistent, research-based instruction. The funding will allow the district to build a more equitable system that ensures literacy success for every Maynard student.

“This grant is an important investment in the literacy of our youngest learners,” said Superintendent Haas. “The PRISM II funding will give our educators the resources, professional learning, and evidence-based materials they need to provide consistent, high-quality literacy instruction from pre-K through third grade.”
