MARBLEHEAD — Marblehead Police and Fire, along with the Marblehead Harbormaster and public safety partners, responded to a boating incident late Thursday night.
On Thursday, Aug. 6, at approximately 11 p.m., the Marblehead Harbormaster, Salem Harbormaster and Beverly Harbormaster responded to Grays Rock for reports of a boat that had crashed onto the rocks.
Marblehead Police and Fire responded to State Street Landing to assist.
A preliminary investigation determined that there were six individuals, all adults, on board the boat at the time of the crash.
Two occupants of the boat were rescued by the Harbormasters and transported to State Street Landing for transport by Beauport Ambulance.
Marblehead Fire Department personnel then boarded the Marblehead Harbormaster vessel and responded to Grays Rock to assist with the rescue of the remaining occupants.
Marblehead firefighters and the Salem Harbormaster entered the water to reach additional injured individuals outside the vessel on Grays Rock. Firefighters, assisted by the Salem Harbormaster, safely secured the individuals and transferred them to a Marblehead Harbormaster boat. Emergency medical care was initiated while en route back to State Street Landing, where they were transferred to Beauport Ambulance.
The Beverly Harbormaster secured an additional individual and transported them to State Street Landing.
The Salem Harbormaster transported two additional occupants with what are believed to be minor injuries to State Street Landing after confirming that all individuals involved in the incident had been accounted for.
Marblehead Police Officers assisted Beauport Ambulance personnel with securing the individuals for transport from the dock to awaiting ambulances.
In total, all six individuals were transported to area hospitals by Beauport Ambulance. Two individuals suffered serious injuries, two suffered what are believed to be minor injuries, and two were treated at area hospitals and have since been released.
The Marblehead Police Department, Marblehead Fire Department and Marblehead Harbormaster would like to thank all mutual aid partners for their rapid response and assistance during the crash.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the Marblehead and Salem Police Departments, the Massachusetts Environmental Police, as well as the Salem Harbormaster.
