GLOUCESTER — The Gloucester Fire Department Honor Guard had the privilege of presenting our nation’s flag in the leadup to a Boston Celtics victory at the TD Garden.

On Friday, April 10, the Gloucester Fire Department Honor Guard presented the colors before the Celtic’s 144-118 win over the New Orleans Pelicans.

The Gloucester Fire Department Honor Guard was formed in 2002 to ensure fallen and retired firefighters receive the honor and dignity they deserve at their funeral services. The Honor Guard also presents the colors at other important City and department events.

Earlier this year, the department was invited to send the Honor Guard to the Garden as part of an ongoing effort by the Celtics to recognize local police and fire honor guards.

Honor Guard members who took part in the presentation are Lt. Michael Shulman, Firefighter Andrew Pierce, Firefighter Nick Aiello, Firefighter Jason Thibodeau, Firefighter Kyle Benson and Firefighter David Elwell.

“I was proud to see our Honor Guard present our nation’s flag before the Celtics win on Friday night,” said Chief Eric Smith. “I want to thank all the members of our Honor Guard for the service they provide to our department and community, and for the dignity and grace with which they handle our flag.”
