STONEHAM — Fire Chief Matthew Grafton is pleased to share that the Stoneham Fire Department was awarded a $19,000 grant through the Firefighter Safety Equipment Grant Program, administered by the Massachusetts Executive Office of Public Safety and Security and the Department of Fire Services (DFS).
The funding has supported the purchase of safety equipment designed to enhance operational readiness and emergency response capabilities.
Stoneham Fire will use the funding to replace three outdated single-band mobile radios. The new radios are dual-band, which gives the department interoperability with multiple mutual aid partners and agencies.
The radio enhancements will enable the department to respond more quickly and ensure firefighters are prepared for a variety of situations.
The grant received by Stoneham was among $5 million in grants provided to fire departments across the Commonwealth to improve firefighter safety.
“Upgrading to dual-band radios significantly improves our ability to communicate with mutual aid partners, enhancing coordination during emergencies,” said Chief Grafton. “We are grateful for this investment in the department that will allow us to more quickly and effectively protect our residents and visitors.”
