CARVER — Town Administrator Robert Fennessy is pleased to share that Carver Town Hall employees participated in a Boston Marathon-themed food drive to support a local food pantry last month.

Throughout the month of April, Carver Town Hall staff competed in a race of their own – the “Don’t Delay, Give Today” fundraiser – just as many were preparing for the Boston Marathon.

The fundraiser, spearheaded by Carver Select Board Office Assistant Nancy Hubbard, was race-themed with every five food items donated “equaling” one mile. The goal of the fundraiser was to donate 26 miles worth of food (130 items), amassing to the same distance of the Boston Marathon route.

Throughout the fundraiser, Town Hall employees got creative with their messaging with encouraging notes that featured language such as “Don’t take your sneakers off yet!”

In total, Carver Town Hall employees beat their goal and made it to the 30th mile marker, donating a total of 150 non-perishable food items to Shane Gives Thanks.

“I would like to thank Nancy for spearheading this unique initiative that allowed our Town Hall employees to give back to the Carver community in a meaningful way,” Town Administrator Fennessy said. “Food insecurity is a nationwide issue that affects countless families, and being able to witness our staff’s commitment to helping those in need was extraordinary. This drive served as a great way to celebrate the Boston Marathon, and I couldn’t be more pleased to see how well it was embraced by all that took part.”

Shane Gives Thanks is a nonprofit food pantry located in Carver that serves Carver residents and surrounding towns.
