CANTON — The Canton Fire Department responded to the scene of a gas line rupture near the intersection of Spring Lane and Chapman Street at 9:11 a.m. on Thursday morning, Aug. 6.
A preliminary investigation revealed a 2-inch break, and homes along Spring Street were evacuated. Crews from Eversource Energy met fire crews at the scene.
Utility crews shut off gas to the area, and residents were cleared to return to their homes. Gas line repairs are ongoing, and there is no ongoing danger to residents. Chapman Street is back open for vehicular travel, but traffic will be restricted on Spring Street until repairs are complete.
“We’re all relieved that we were able to quickly contain this leak, clear the area and avoid a more serious incident,” said Canton Fire Chief Jamie Meier. “This serves as a reminder to residents to always report gas leaks promptly to authorities.”
