COHASSET — Town Manager Christopher Senior would like to invite community members to attend the grand opening of Cohasset’s new Parker Avenue Boat Ramp this Thursday.
WHEN:
Thursday, May 11, beginning at 10 a.m.
WHERE:
Parker Avenue Boat Ramp, 33 Parker Ave.
Those attending are asked to park at the lot at Bancroft Hall at the Cohasset Lightkeepers Residence, 15 Lighthouse Lane.
WHAT:
The ceremony will feature the launch of a local boat, which will mark the first official use of the new ramp, and remarks will be given by local officials including Town Manager Chris Senior and Tim Davis, chair of the Harbor Committee. Assistant Town Manager Michelle Leary and state officials will also be in attendance.
The ceremony will celebrate the completion of the reconstruction work funded through an $800,000 grant from the Seaport Economic Council.
In addition to the $800,000 SEC grant, the Town of Cohasset also was awarded a $170,000 SEC grant for permitting and engineering services to replace the ramp. The town also used Community Preservation Act funds that were approved by voters at Town Meeting 2021 to fund the reconstruction work.
Coastal Marine Construction began its work on the ramp in November 2022. It was completed in late April.
The original boat ramp was established in the 1960s and is the only public boat ramp in Cohasset. Due to its age and wear, it was only usable at high tide.
The new ramp extends about 40 feet farther into the channel than the previous ramp and is in deeper water which allows for more access at lower tides.
