Call Box Directly Connects Caller to 911 Services

COHASSET — Cohasset Town Manager Chris Senior, Police Chief William Quigley, Fire Chief John Dockray, Emergency Management Director Glenn Pratt and Chief Information Officer Ron Menard are pleased to announce that a new emergency call box has been installed at Wadleigh Park for those in need of emergency services.

A demonstration was held Thursday, Sept. 29, featuring town officials and public safety officials including Town Manager Senior, Chief Quigley, Chief Dockray, Director Pratt and Select Board member Diane Kennedy.

The satellite call box is installed directly across the street from Black Rock Beach in the nearby Wadleigh Park. The box has a large sign and light on it along with it being yellow for everyone to see.

The new call box allows anyone to pick up the attached phone and be directly connected to the South Shore Regional Communications Center, the town’s 911 dispatching service. There are instructions on how to use the phone located inside the box. The call box is a major public safety upgrade as the area lacks cellular service resulting in difficulty when making phone calls.

“Should there ever be an emergency at Black Rock Beach, we don’t want phones’ weak signals to be the reason as to why they can’t complete a call and connect with 911 dispatchers for call for services,” Chief Quigley said. “With the addition of this box, we are proactively ensuring the safety of our community members and beachgoers while also assisting our dispatchers with accurately receiving calls of a higher quality that they may not have been able to receive previously.”

The installation of the emergency call box was supported by the Cohasset Select Board, which voted to approve funds to purchase and install it at Wadleigh Park.

“This box reaffirms the town’s commitment to keeping everyone safe, which is a top priority of ours in Cohasset. I would like to thank everyone who assisted and participated in this project, including the Select Board, Chief Dockray, Chief Quigley, Director Pratt and Chief Information Officer Menard,” Town Manager Senior said.

The emergency call box is fully operational. If you have any questions feel free to reach out to the Cohasset Police Department at 781-383-1212.
