Fairfield Police Department Provides Update on Emergency Services During COVID-19 Pandemic

FAIRFIELD — The Fairfield Police Department would like to remind residents that the department remains fully operational during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, and that our officers continue to respond to calls for service as always.

The Fairfield Fire Department, along with the town’s EMS partner/ambulance service American Medical Response (AMR), remain fully operational as well and ready to assist any resident in need.

First responders will continue to follow health and safety guidelines as recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and local health officials, such as wearing appropriate personal protective equipment and practicing social distancing when possible.

Despite the many changes to everyday life as a result of this public health crisis, the Fairfield Police Department’s top priority will remain protecting and serving each and every member of the community. Officers may look different while wearing personal protective equipment, but this is being done out of an abundance of caution for both members of the community and first responders.

As always, residents are reminded to call 911 in the event of an emergency.

Practice Social Distancing and Good Hygiene

Fairfield Police also wish to provide residents with guidance for social distancing and proper hygiene:

• Social distancing guidelines have been extended until May 20, per Gov. Ned Lamont. At the recommendation of public health officials, all residents should practice social distancing and remain at least six feet away from others while avoiding congregating in groups larger than 10. Regardless of your age, and no matter if you feel sick or not, it is important to follow social distancing guidelines and stay at home away from non-family contacts at this time.
• Social distancing will help to minimize exposure among people, especially given that COVID-19 is highly contagious and people may be contagious prior to exhibiting symptoms. Parents should be sure to talk to their children about proper hygiene and prevention methods as well as the importance of social distancing.
• Town officials would also like to inform residents of the critical importance of not congregating in groups outside. While residents are encouraged to get outside for fresh air, it is unsafe to have groups of people at the playgrounds or playing team and contact sports. 
• Practice good hand hygiene. Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds including under your fingernails. Alcohol-based hand sanitizer (at least 60% alcohol content) can be used when soap and water are not available.
• Keep your hands away from your face, and cover your nose and mouth when sneezing and coughing with a tissue and discard it immediately. Cough into the sleeve over your elbow instead of your hand. Wash your hands often when coughing and sneezing.
• Stay away from people who are sick and stay home when you are sick.

The Fairfield Police Department wishes to thank residents for doing their part to help stop the spread of this deadly disease. We are all in this together, and we will make it through this stronger than we were before.

Scams Relating to COVID-19

• Due to the increase in phone, email and other scams related to this virus, we wish to provide the following tips to residents to prevent such scams from taking place in the community:
  • Never to give out their personal information over the phone or online.
  • Items being marketed as “kits,” “cures” and/or “antidotes” for the novel coronavirus are all scams and may also be dangerous.
  • Never partake in any COVID-19 testing from door-to-door solicitors, people who approach them at grocery stores or other community venues, solicitors who call requesting financial information in return for a test or COVID-19 test offerings by mail.
  • Never give personal information, medicare numbers, money or home access to people soliciting tests. If a testing kit is mailed to you, you should not accept the test. Return the test to the sender and alert local authorities immediately.
  • Residents with any questions or who believe they may have fallen victim to a scam can contact the Fairfield Police Department by its business line, listed above.
