Winthrop to Host Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for New Ecology Park and Walking Pathways

WINTHROP — Town Manager Austin Faison is pleased to announce that a ribbon cutting ceremony for the Belle Isle Marsh Marine Ecology Park and Walking Pathway will take place next week.

The project was recently completed and the park and scenic walkways will be officially open to the public following the ceremony.

WHAT

The project broke ground on June 2, 2017 and was overseen by the Town Council’s Public Works Subcommittee, the Town Manager’s Office and the Public Works Department, with local permitting under the jurisdiction of the Winthrop Conservation Commission.

Funding was supported by over $1.2 million from the state Seaport Economic Council.

Once open to the public, a walker in Winthrop will be able to walk from the intersection of Pleasant Street and Main Street, along sidewalks, walking paths and foot bridges to Short Beach in Revere, without ever crossing a major road. A new park on the DCR land will serve as a recreational resource, eco-tourism attraction and outdoor learning center for children and students of all ages.
