Gloucester Police Officer Graduates from MBTA Transit Academy

GLOUCESTER — Interim Chief John McCarthy is pleased to announce that Bryan Sanborn is the newest full-time officer at the Gloucester Police Department.

Officer Sanborn graduated from the MBTA Transit Police Academy’s 38th Municipal Police Officers’ Class and was recognized at a ceremony on March 22.

The rigorous six-month program featured classroom hours where attendees learned about criminal and constitutional law, domestic violence, use of force, motor vehicle law as well as many other pertinent topics. The officers also spent time at the shooting range and Emergency Vehicle Operations Course.

Born and raised in Gloucester, Officer Sanborn first started at the Gloucester Police Department on July 1, 2014 as a Reserve Officer. In 2011, he graduated from Plymouth State University with a bachelor’s degree in business administration and a minor in communications.

Officer Sanborn will begin seven weeks of field training before being assigned to a shift.

“Over the last almost three years, Officer Sanborn has proven to be an asset to this department in his role as a Reserve Officer,” Chief McCarthy said. “We’re extremely happy to have him transition to full-time, and I know he will continue to serve this community well.”
