Rockport Police Department Announces Job Openings, Encourages Residents to Apply
ROCKPORT — Chief John Horvath announces that the Rockport Police Department is looking for qualified applicants to fill several open positions.
“There are many great positions available in town and with the police department,” Chief Horvath said. “I encourage residents to take a look at the job descriptions and all who qualify should absolutely apply.”
Parking Program Supervisor
Pay Rate: $13,000 stipend
Closing Date: March 24 at noon
The composition of work involved as the Parking Program Supervisor involves the supervision of Parking Control Officer(s), considerable walking and standing for extended periods of time, lifting and carrying of parking meter equipment, working in inclement weather, exposure to hazards and working in the proximity of moving vehicles. The job requires normal color vision. The Parking Program Supervisor will be required to maintain a flexible schedule with work hours during days, evenings and weekends from late February until Nov. 1 each year. The Parking Program Supervisor is required to wear a departmental issued uniform and safety gear as designated by the police department. Lifeguards (12 Positions)
Pay Rate: $15/hour

The composition of work involved as a lifeguard involves strenuous activity coupled with the responsibility for public safety in a beach setting, considerable walking, standing, sitting for extended periods of time, moderate swimming and running based upon emergency situations, lifting and carrying of equipment, working in hot weather and beach conditions for extended periods of time, and exposure to hazards. The lifeguard will be required to maintain a flexible schedule with work availability based on need, seven days a week between the hours of 10 a.m. and 4:45 p.m. from mid June through Labor Day. The lifeguard is required to wear a departmental issued uniform and safety gear as designated by the police department while performing the job. Civilian Parking Control Officer (Three Positions)
Pay Rate: $11.91/hour

The composition of work involved as the Parking Control Officer (civilian position) involves the enforcement of parking laws and by-laws as established by Massachusetts General Laws and the Town of Rockport Board of Selectmen on public ways and parking lots. The Parking Control Officer has no authority to enforce criminal law. The Parking Control Officer is under the direction, control and supervision of the Parking Program Supervisor and the on-shift Rockport Police Officer-in-Charge. The Parking Control Officer is guided by the Rockport Police Department rules/regulations and policy/procedure manuals.
The position involves extensive walking and standing for long periods of time, lifting and carrying of parking violation books and occasionally the carrying of equipment related to the Parking Program to include but not limited to signage, working in inclement weather, exposure to hazards and working in the proximity of moving vehicles. The job includes continuous interaction with the community and requires normal color vision. The Parking Control Officer will be required to maintain a flexible schedule with work hours during days, evenings, and weekends from April 1 to Nov. 1 each year. The Parking Control Officer is required to wear a departmental issued uniform and safety gear as designated by the police department. Full-Time Civilian Dispatcher Position
Pay Rate: Starting hourly rate is $15.61

The Rockport Police Department is accepting applications for a full-time Civilian Dispatcher for a combined Police, Fire and EMS communications center. The work hours for this position are on the night shift from 12-8 a.m. through a rotating schedule of four days on followed by two days off.
Responsibilities include receiving emergency and non-emergency calls through the Emergency 911 system, determining appropriate level of response and dispatching public safety personnel clearly and calmly.
