Statement of Winchester Police Chief Kenneth C. Albertelli

Murder Suspect Matthew McAveeney Arrested in North Carolina

WINCHESTER — Police Chief Kenneth C. Albertelli issues the following statement:

“Today, police officers in Belmont, N.C. arrested Matthew McAveeney on a murder warrant, for allegedly killing his mother, Barbara McAveeney. A Winchester detective will accompany representatives of the Middlesex District Attorney’s office to North Carolina as soon as possible, in order to begin the process of returning Mr. McAveeney to Massachusetts to account for his alleged crimes.

“I am pleased with the amazing level of cooperation and hard work shown by police across multiple jurisdictions, who worked together to ensure that this alleged killer would not remain on the loose. This was a horrible crime, and all we can do as police officers is ensure that justice is served.”
