Ipswich Police Urge Safety During Back to School Days
Stop for School Buses!
IPSWICH — Police Chief Paul A. Nikas would like to wish all Ipswich students a safe and healthy back to school season, as schools opened on September 2. He is urging all motorists in town to use caution when driving, especially during school opening and closing hours, when children may be walking along the roads or riding in school buses.
The department will be patrolling school zones, and speed limits and yield laws will be enforced.
“Our primary concern is for the safety and security of all children as they head to and from school,” Chief Nikas said. “We are urging all motorists to be patient and give themselves a little bit of extra time during their commutes to accommodate children.”
The Ipswich Police Department also reminds motorists of the following:
Use caution when operating your motor vehicle and remember to stop when you see the flashing lights and stop sign, as a child is not far away.
It is illegal to pass a school bus when the flashing lights have been activated.
Students may be riding their bicycles to school, so please share the road with them.
Working together, the residents and students of Ipswich can have a safe start of the new school year!
