Great Turnout!

Melrose Police Install 53 Car Seats for Local Parents

Second Free Event Being Planned for Later This Year

MELROSE — Police Chief Michael L. Lyle is pleased to announce that 53 local families turned out on Saturday, June 21 for the Melrose Police Department Car Seat Day.

“Our work in the community, helping residents and children, is one of the most important things we do each and every day in the Melrose Police Department,” Chief Lyle said. “I want to thank our officers who spent all day with families, and I want to thank the families for coming out and supporting this terrific event.”

Officers Dan Ehlers and Jim Applegate were on hand from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. installing the car seats for free and showing residents how to properly secure their children inside them.

One defective car seat was also identified and pointed out to the family so that they could replace it.

Chief Lyle said that, due to the popularity of this weekend’s event, the department will host an evening car seat installation for more families to attend later this year.
