Melrose Police Raise Nearly $3,000 for RAD Program and Scholarship Fund During Annual Comedy Night

Melrose Police Chief Michael L. Lyle would like to thank all the attendees, donors, and the four performers who made Thursday’s annual Melrose Police Comedy Night a rousing success!

The Comedy Night, held on Thursday at Prince Pizza in Saugus, raised $2,860, which will wholly benefit the Melrose Rape Aggression Defense Program and the Melrose Police Scholarship Fund, which gives college scholarships to Melrose High School students pursing an education in policing or criminal justice.

“We could not have done it without the help of Prince Pizza, our donors, attendees,  the men and women of the Melrose Police Department, and, of course, our four great comedians! I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to everyone who came to the event or donated to these two worthwhile causes,” Chief Lyle said. “Our RAD Program and Scholarship Fund provide direct benefits for Melrose residents, and I am proud of the show of support we received.”

The night was headlined by veteran Boston comedian Lenny Clarke with great performances by comedians Christine Hurley, Artie Januario, and Jack Walsh.

Walsh warmed up the crowd with a hilarious opening set, followed by Hurley’s hilarious tales of life as a mom and firefighter’s wife. Artie Januario — pharmacist by day, comic by night — took the stage next and kept the crowd in stitches with his delivery and execution of material. Lenny Clarke closed out the night with his signature style and a room full of belly laughs!

Nearly 100 people attended, including attendees from: Gately Funeral Home, D&R Construction, Crystal Motor Freight, the Melrose Running Club, Melrose Glass Company, US Fuel, and The Crowley Family, all of whom purchased tables, with up to 10 people per table.

Raffle prizes were donated by several Melrose businesses including: Hillside Press, the NEMLEC FoundationAuto Image Automotive Detailing, Turner’s Seafood; Stearns and Hill’s Bistro, and Bobby C’s Ristorante.
