A Marine snapped to action, tackled a purse snatching suspect, and held him down until police arrived.

The suspect, identified as Demetrick Nealy, 26, of Roslindale was arrested and charged with unarmed robbery after he allegedly stole a woman’s purse in Chinatown, according to Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley. Nealy allegedly grabbed the woman’s purse from behind as she walked down Beach Street at about 7:30 p.m. Wednesday. The 23-year-old Marine from Corona, Calif., who was not named, heard the woman’s screams and ran after Nealy.

“This young man saw what was happening and sprinted into action,” Conley said. “He chased the suspect for about four blocks, tackled him, and held him for police.”

Boston Police arrested Nealy after the victim positively identified him. Nealy was ordered held on $5,000 cash bail and will be back in court on April 11.

“She was lucky to have a Good Samaritan looking out for her, but even luckier that he was a Marine,” Conley said.
