Town of Marion Hosting Hazardous Waste Collection Day

MARION — Town Administrator James McGrail is pleased to announce that Marion will hold a Household Hazardous Waste Collection event this month.

WHEN:

Saturday, Nov. 16, from 9 a.m. to noon

WHERE:

Benson Brook Transfer Station, 57 Benson Brook Road in Marion and at the Carver DPW Building, 51R Pond Street in Carver

WHO:

The event will be sponsored by the Carver, Marion, Wareham Regional Refuse Disposal District (CMWRRDD) and Covanta Energy of SEMASS.

WHAT:

Residents from Marion, Carver and Wareham are invited to participate in the event.

District residents are reminded that a valid transfer station sticker or proof of residency is required to participate in the Household Hazardous Product Collection. Proof of residency documents include driver’s licenses, tax bills, water or sewer bills and any other official document stating your name and address.

Normal residential drop off will be closed on Nov. 16 to accommodate the event. Residents should use the Rt. 28 transfer station for household trash drop off as an alternative.

The following items will be accepted:

• House and Garden Products: weed killers and fertilizers, bug and rodent sprays, bug sprays, insecticides, swimming pool chemicals, over the counter medicines, assorted household cleaners and more.
• Garage Products: car wax and polish, fuel additives, antifreeze, motor oil and various other car fluids.
• Workshop/Painting Products: lead based paint, stains and finishes, paint strippers and removers, waxes, adhesives, glues and other solvents.

The following items will not be accepted on Nov. 16:

• Commercial hazardous waste or medical waste
• Propane tanks
• Ammunition, explosives and fireworks
• Biological matter and radioactive materials
• Fluorescent bulbs or tubes
• Tires

Please note that all containers, boxes and baskets that transport the hazardous waste must be left at the site.

“To prevent the overflow of traffic that we experienced at the Hazardous Waste Collection Day in Bourne this past spring, we encourage residents to be mindful of what they are disposing of,” said Town Administrator James McGrail. “The two transfer stations regularly accept propane tanks, florescent bulbs and mercury products, so we ask that residents only bring items that aren’t regularly accepted.”
