Avon Fire Department Responds to Garage Fire, Transports Burn Victim to Hospital

AVON — Chief David Charest reports that the Avon Fire Department responded to a garage fire on Old South Street Thursday afternoon.

At 12:10 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 10, fire crews deployed to 551 Old South St. following a 911 call reporting flames in a garage and an injured resident. 

Upon arrival at the scene, Avon firefighters and paramedics located the injured man, who had been helped from the burning garage by another person.

Avon firefighters and paramedics rendered aid to the injured resident, who was transported to Boston Medical Center – South in Brockton by an Avon Fire ambulance, and then flown to Mass General Hospital. 

The relatively small fire burned itself out and required only minor extinguishing.

The State Police Fire & Explosion Investigation Unit assigned to the State Fire Marshal’s office responded to the scene and will be leading the investigation.

Avon Police assisted at the scene. Holbrook Fire Department responded to an initial call for mutual aid with a backup engine.

The cause of the fires remains under investigation by the State Police Fire & Explosion Investigation Unit.
