ACTON — The Town of Acton is pleased to celebrate the continued growth of longtime Acton business Abside Networks, which officially kicked off manufacturing operations at its new Discovery Way facility last week.

On Thursday, Aug. 13, Abside Networks welcomed members of the Acton community and state leaders to its facility at 100 Discovery Way for an event marking the launch of its manufacturing operations.

Attendees toured the facility, learned more about the company’s work, and connected with leaders from manufacturing businesses across Massachusetts.

U.S. Rep. Lori Trahan attended the event and spoke about the importance of supporting manufacturing and innovation companies in Massachusetts. Federal officials and representatives from the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) also attended.

Additionally, on Friday, Aug. 14, Abside hosted a symposium that explored the future of Integrated Sensing and Communications (ISAC), a technology being considered for inclusion in emerging 6G standards. The symposium brought about 25 leading professionals from aerospace, defense, academia, and wireless communications to Acton to discuss the opportunities, technical challenges, and safety considerations surrounding ISAC, including representatives from Virginia Tech, Northeastern University, Cohere Technologies, and Lockheed Martin.

Participants at the symposium examined ISAC applications in safety, aerospace, and defense, as well as the importance of advancing ISAC to deliver not only data but actionable decisions. Discussions also explored how AI and radio access networks (RAN) can work together to enable new applications while improving spectral efficiency.

Abside Networks CEO and Founder Laurent Perraud founded the telecommunications company 14 years ago in his basement with $2,500 in startup capital.

The company moved into its first Acton office on Knox Trail in 2017. Abside Networks is a vertically integrated company that develops its software and hardware and manufactures its products in-house. Its products serve both civilian and defense applications.

The company initially focused on high-end, low-volume products and is now expanding into higher-volume production.

Perraud said Acton’s central location has helped the company attract employees from across New England. After outgrowing its Knox Trail location, Abside Networks relocated to 100 Discovery Way in late 2025. The move was supported by a state job-creation tax credit.

The company currently employs 35 people, and Perraud hopes to grow its workforce to approximately 100 employees as the company expands and raises additional capital.

Abside Networks is also investing in producing its own chips and expanding its domestic manufacturing capabilities. While much of the telecommunications industry’s manufacturing takes place overseas, the company is working to bring hardware design, software development and manufacturing together under one roof in Acton.

The Town of Acton works to support the growth of new and existing businesses through its economic development efforts. Economic Development Director Patricia Costa works closely with local businesses to connect them with resources, promote opportunities for growth and highlight Acton as a place to do business.

“Abside Networks is a great example of the type of innovative company that can grow and thrive here in Acton,” said Town Manager John S. Mangiaratti. “We are excited that Laurent and his team chose to continue investing in our community, and we look forward to seeing what comes next as they expand their manufacturing operations and workforce.”
