Tewksbury Police Department Arrests Two on Multiple Drug Charges, Including Trafficking Cocaine

TEWKSBURY — Chief Ryan M. Columbus reports that the Tewksbury Police Department, with the assistance of the Billerica Police Department and the Middlesex Sheriff’s Office, arrested two individuals on multiple drug charges Monday evening.

KEVIN JONES, 30, of LOWELL, was arrested on the following charges:

• Trafficking in 18 Grams or More of Cocaine
• Distribution of a Class B Drug (Cocaine)
• Possession with Intent to Distribute a Class B Drug
• Possession of a Class B Drug (Crack Cocaine)

LAURA COFFEY, 31, of CHELMSFORD, was arrested on the following charges:

• Trafficking in 18 Grams or More of Cocaine
• Distribution of a Class B Drug (Cocaine)
• Possession with Intent to Distribute a Class B Drug (MDMA)

On Monday, Aug. 3, at approximately 6:15 p.m., Tewksbury Police officers were patrolling the area of Main Street when they observed what appeared to be a drug transaction involving a silver sedan.

Officers encountered and identified the occupants of the silver sedan as COFFEY and JONES.

While speaking with JONES and COFFEY, officers observed clear plastic bags containing a white powdery substance in the vehicle. 

JONES and COFFEY were taken into custody without incident.

During an on-scene investigation, including a search of the vehicle, Tewksbury Police, with the assistance of Billerica Police, the Middlesex Sheriff’s Office, and the Andover Police K-9 Unit, located multiple bags containing a white powdery substance, determined to be 26.2 grams of cocaine, a small rock-like substance determined to be crack cocaine, a clear crystal substance determined to be MDMA, and drug paraphernalia. 

JONES and COFFEY were arraigned Tuesday in Lowell District Court.

These are allegations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
