BRIDGEWATER — Fire Chief John Schlatz reports that the Bridgewater Fire Department swiftly extinguished a fire in a three-story apartment building on Wednesday morning.
At 7:46 a.m. on Wednesday, June 24, the Bridgewater Fire Department received a fire alarm activation from an apartment building at 14 Meadow Lane. Upon arrival, firefighters observed heavy smoke showing from the top floor.
Firefighters used ground ladders to access the upper floors of the brick apartment building as crews worked to contain the fire. Firefighters quickly located and extinguished the fire, with the Engine 1 crew suppressing the flames using less than 250 gallons of water.
Crews then remained on scene to check for any extension of the fire into other areas of the building.
All occupants safely evacuated the building, and no injuries were reported.
Firefighters also safely removed a pet cat from the building during the incident.
The Bridgewater Fire Department response included Engine 1, Engine 3, Engine 4, Tower 1, Ambulance 4, Car 1, Car 2, Car 5 and Car 6.
Mutual aid was provided by the Whitman Fire Department, which responded with a Rapid Intervention Team (RIT), along with Fire Departments from East Bridgewater, Halifax, Raynham and Middleborough. Both the Raynham and Middleborough Fire Departments brought water tankers to the scene. The West Bridgewater Fire Department provided station coverage. Bridgewater Inspectional Services also responded to the scene.
Firefighters cleared the scene at approximately 9:31 a.m.
One resident, who lived in the unit where the fire occurred, was displaced. Two others living in the apartment below may also be displaced.
The fire remains under investigation by the Bridgewater Fire Department.
“Due to the quick actions of our firefighters and the help of our mutual aid partners, this fire was contained and extinguished, preventing it from spreading further through the building,” said Chief Schlatz. “Our crews did an excellent job bringing the fire under control, ensuring everyone got out safely and even rescuing a family pet. We’re grateful that no one was injured.”
