AVON — Chief David Charest reports that the Avon Fire Department responded to a fire that broke out on the roof of an industrial property, leading to a temporary closure of the building.
On Sunday, Nov. 2, at approximately 9:30 p.m., the Avon Fire Department received a 911 call from a neighborhood resident reporting flames visible on the roof of 21 Parker Drive.
Upon arrival, Avon firefighters immediately observed the flames and accessed the roof with multiple aerial ladders to extinguish the blaze. Crews worked to contain the fire to the roof area, preventing it from extending into the interior of the building.
The fire was knocked down relatively quickly, and Avon firefighters then conducted overhaul operations to ensure all hot spots were fully extinguished.
No injuries were reported, and no one was inside the building at the time of the fire.
Mutual aid was provided at the scene by the Stoughton, Holbrook, Randolph and Brockton fire departments. The Brockton Fire Department also covered the Avon fire station during the incident, while Brewster EMS responded and stood by at the scene.
The Massachusetts State Police Fire & Explosion Investigation Unit assigned to the State Fire Marshal’s Office responded to the scene. The Avon Building Commissioner and a representative from the Holbrook Communications Center also responded.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the State Fire Marshal’s Office.
The property, which houses multiple businesses including Parker Driving School, sustained damage to the roof, along with water damage to the interior of the building. The Avon Building Department continues to assess the extent of the damage.
Meanwhile, businesses within the building are temporarily closed.
Chief Charest commended the quick actions of responding firefighters and thanked mutual aid partners for their assistance.
“Our firefighters did an excellent job working quickly and safely to bring this fire under control,” Chief Charest said. “Their swift response and coordinated efforts prevented this incident from causing more extensive damage to the building and the businesses that it contains.”
