WILMINGTON — The Wilmington Police Department is welcoming three new, college-educated officers who graduated from the Lynnfield Police Academy.
Officer David Ings, Officer Karl Saied, and Officer Jack Rooney were sworn in on Wednesday morning by Town Clerk Beth Lawrenson. They graduated from the Lynnfield Police Academy on Monday.
Officer Ings is a 2020 graduate of Wilmington High School, who earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice at Norwich University, where he was a member of the Corp of Cadets. He has previously worked as a security officer at Massachusetts General Hospital, and as intern with the Barre, Vermont Police Department and Barre, Vermont Probation and Parole.
Officer Saied is a 2020 graduate of Wilmington High School, who earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from UMass Lowell. He previously worked as a Public Safety Officer at Lowell General Hospital.
Officer Rooney is a 2022 graduate of Wilmington High School, who earned an Associate’s Degree in Psychology from Middlesex Community College. He has previously worked as a communications dispatcher for UMass Lowell Police.
“I am excited to have these three new officers, who all grew up in this community, joining our department. All three have a background in dispatch or hospital public safety, so they already have a good background in talking to people. Communication is a major part of this job,” said Chief Brian Pupa, who also joked: “To their family members that are present, our new officers will be working all weekend at the Fun On the Fourth festivities, so don’t make any plans for them.”
Town Manager Eric Slagle attending the swearing in, and said that welcoming new officers is one of his favorite duties as Town Manager.
“I am awestruck of these young men who willingly place their lives on the line to serve this community,” Town Manager Slagle said.
All three officers will now undergo a Field Training Program under the supervision of an experienced officer.
