DUNSTABLE — Chief William Farrell reports that the Dunstable Fire Department and its mutual aid partners extinguished a house fire on Tuesday evening.

On Tuesday, Oct. 14, at approximately 7:40 p.m., the Dunstable Fire Department responded to a report of a house fire at 571 Hollis St.

When crews arrived, they observed smoke coming from the roof of the single-family home. Firefighters entered the house and determined there was an active fire in the attic.

Two hose lines were extended into the home, and firefighters quickly extinguished the fire. The fire damage was contained to the area of origin, but the home sustained smoke and water damage on other floors.

All residents safely evacuated before firefighters arrived, and no one was injured.

Ten residents were displaced as a result of the fire. The American Red Cross of Massachusetts is assisting them.

The Pepperell, Groton and Tyngsborough Fire Departments provided mutual aid at the scene. Nashua Fire Rescue provided station coverage.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Dunstable Fire Department.

“Crews did a great job quickly getting to the source of the fire and extinguishing it before it spread further throughout the house,” said Chief Farrell. “We appreciate all of our mutual aid partners who assisted during this incident.”

With Fire Prevention Week just concluded, the Dunstable Fire Department reminds residents to check that smoke detectors are installed and working properly.
