Mansfield Police Department Provides Update Regarding MBTA Lot Parking App Issue; Urges Commuters to Update App on Thursday

MANSFIELD — The Mansfield Police Department would like to update residents and commuters about a recent issue affecting payments made through the PayByPhone app at the Mansfield MBTA station parking lot.

In late September, PayByPhone updated its app interface. Following that update, some users who parked in resident spaces were mistakenly charged the non-resident rate of $4 per day instead of the correct $3 rate. The issue did not affect all users or all transactions.

Once the problem was identified, the Mansfield Police Department contacted PayByPhone and worked directly with a company representative to investigate and resolve the issue. PayByPhone has confirmed that a fix has been developed, tested, and approved for release.

Because Apple and Android release app updates on Thursdays, the corrected version of the PayByPhone app will be available to users beginning Thursday, Oct. 16.

Commuters should update their PayByPhone app on Thursday to ensure they have the latest version.

The Mansfield Police Department will compile a list of affected users and submit it to PayByPhone on Monday, Oct. 20, covering transactions made between Sept. 24 and Oct. 20. PayByPhone will issue reimbursement credits by Tuesday, Oct. 28.

If you believe you were charged incorrectly and your account is not credited by that date, contact Parking Officer Steve Simonds at ssimonds@mansfieldma.com or 508-261-7300 ext. 7.

The Mansfield Police Department appreciates everyone’s patience as this issue was identified and resolved, and thanks PayByPhone for working quickly to correct it.
