Whitman Fire Department Rescues Man Injured in Tree Stand Fall; Patient Flown to Boston Hospital

WHITMAN — Chief Timothy Clancy reports that the Whitman Fire Department rescued and transported a man who was seriously injured after falling from a tree stand on Monday afternoon.

On Monday, Sept. 15, at approximately 2:49 p.m., Whitman Fire responded to a 911 call from a 58-year-old man who reported falling 20 to 25 feet from a tree in the woods behind 21 Highland Ave.

Crews arrived within four minutes and located the man about 150 to 200 feet into thick woods. Firefighters and paramedics treated him at the scene, removed him from the woods, and transported him by ambulance to a landing zone behind Whitman Police Headquarters on Essex Street.

A Boston MedFlight helicopter, which was nearby returning from another call, arrived within minutes and transported the patient to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston.

The severity of his injuries was not immediately known.

Whitman Police also responded and assisted during the incident.

“I would like to thank all of our firefighters and paramedics who helped respond to this incident and commend them for their swift action and professionalism under challenging circumstances,” Chief Clancy said. “Their efforts to reach the patient in dense woods and coordinate a rapid MedFlight transport will improve his chances of survival and recovery.”
