RYE — The Town of Rye Select Board has named Deputy Scott Blaisdell as Rye’s next Chief of Police.
Deputy Blaisdell, who has been serving as the Interim Chief since the beginning of the year, will take his new position as Chief on July 28, following Chief Kevin Walsh’s official departure. Chief Walsh was recently appointed as the new Chief of North Hampton Police, for which he has been serving as the interim Chief since January.
Deputy Blaisdell, a Rye native, has served as a member of the Rye Police Department for 26 years. His late father, former Chief Leon C. Blaisdell, served the Rye Fire Department for 34 years.
Deputy Blaisdell is described as going above and beyond with community engagement. Aside from his duties with the department, he dedicates his time to coaching the Rye Junior High School track teams, and is committed to educating the children of Rye on a variety of safety issues.
Deputy Blaisdell currently serves as the Executive Officer for the Seacoast Emergency Response Team’s Crisis Negotiation Team. In 2024, Deputy Blaisdell and the Crisis Negotiation Team took part in the 1st Annual 2024 Northeast Negotiator’s Challenge, where the team placed first.
“Chief Walsh was pivotal in his role as Chief here in Rye, and we wish him the best of luck during his next chapter in North Hampton,” said Town Administrator Scruton. “Deputy Chief Blaisdell has shown exceptional leadership skills, and his knowledge of the community will be instrumental as he steps into his new role. I am proud of Deputy Blaisdell’s commitment and dedication to serving the Town of Rye and look forward to watching his continued efforts in maintaining safety within our community.”
“We are confident that Chief Blaisdell’s extensive experience, deep community
ties, and proven leadership will ensure a smooth transition and continued excellence for our police department,” said Select Board Member Bob McGrath.
