TEWKSBURY – Police officers frequently respond to traumatic incidents that can have lasting impacts on officer mental health, so the Tewksbury Police Department is launching a new, proactive tool to help officers manage wellness.
Chief Ryan Columbus is pleased to announce that Tewksbury Police have partnered with Mindbase to offer tools dedicated to supporting the wellness of officers and their families.
Mindbase offers officers a Wellness Toolkit customized for Tewksbury Police, linking officers and supervisors to resources available to them as Town and Police Department employees.
An easy-to-use app provides assessment tools, mental health resources, peer support resources, and a self-care toolkit to help officers care for their mental and emotional health.
Additionally, Mindbase supports the Tewksbury Police Department’s Peer Support Team and provides tools to drive proactive check-ins with officers who have handled calls that are likely to have a traumatic impact.
Police routinely respond to incidents such as vehicle crashes, aggravated assaults, sexual assaults, domestic violence incidents, and more that can cause trauma and negatively impact officer mental health over time. The department’s partnership with Mindbase is aimed at helping officers deal with the emotions, memories and trauma that can result from those incidents.

“I’ve personally experienced numerous traumatic incidents in my career, and as the leader of this organization, I’m aware that all of our officers make a sacrifice by exposing themselves to repeated trauma while performing their duties,” said Chief Columbus. “It is profoundly important to me that the Tewksbury Police Department does everything possible to support the mental health and wellness of our officers. We ask them to face trauma while they work to protect us, and it is our duty to provide them with the tools they need to do so in a healthy way.”
