MANSFIELD – Superintendent Teresa Murphy is pleased to share that Mansfield Public Schools was recognized for completing the School Wellness Initiative for Thriving Community Health (SWITCH) Massachusetts Wellness Coaching Program sponsored by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) Office for Food and Nutrition.

On May 21, the Mansfield Public Schools Health and Wellness Advisory Council was recognized at the Healthy Kids, Healthy Programs Summit by the Acting Commissioner of DESE, Russell D. Johnston. The District also received a large banner outlining the recognition that will be displayed in the Mansfield High School cafeteria.

The SWITCH program is a statewide initiative for supporting and advancing wellness efforts for Massachusetts students, schools and communities.

Members of the council worked to conduct a Wellness Policy Assessment, updating the policy to meet state and federal requirements, as well as action planning, prioritizing and implementing wellness initiatives and monitoring and evaluating results.

The past year has been spent revitalizing the Health & Wellness Advisory Council to reclaim the level of participation prior to Covid. The council meets four times a year and is made up of essential staff such as administrators, school nurses, counselors, teachers, parent/guardian representatives, two student representatives from the high school and community representation from the police, fire and health department.

“I am incredibly proud to announce that our District has been recognized for its exceptional commitment to promoting a healthy and supportive environment,” said Superintendent Murphy. “This achievement underscores our dedication to fostering a community where everyone can thrive both academically and personally.”
