WHAT:

On Friday, the Mansfield Public Schools student body will gather in the Mansfield High School Gymnasium to witness the unveiling of the district’s new logo. The unveiling will take place during the 2024 Special Olympics School Day Games pre-games rally.

The district’s mascot will continue to be the Hornet and the colors will remain green and white. However, the new modernized logo and font will be unique to Mansfield Public Schools and will give the district’s logo its own identity. The former logo borrowed imagery from college teams and other sources and multiple versions were being used in a variety of ways.

To authentically capture the essence of the district, Mansfield Public Schools administration partnered with Jeff Eagles of Jeff Eagles Creative to create the logo.

An initial working group comprised of Superintendent Murphy, Assistant Superintendent Michael Connolly, Mansfield High School Principal Russ Booth, Athletic Director Tim Selmon, and Assistant Athletic Director Michael Redding, was formed in February 2024 and was tasked with presenting a briefing to Jeff Eagles Creative and kicking off the project.

Throughout the following four months, feedback was solicited from a second working group made up of stakeholders including, students, alumni, school committee members, parents/guardians and community members.

Use of the updated logo will begin immediately in certain cases and rolled out gradually in other areas. It will be added to the district website, on social media and on some branded collateral material shortly following the unveiling. However, branded materials like athletics and performing arts uniforms and other signage including banners and printed materials will be added on their own individual timelines.

More information about the rollout and use of the logo by parent and community groups will be announced over the summer.

“The logo keeps the spirit of the hornets alive while giving the district its own identity and brand,” said Superintendent Murphy. “Jeff Eagles is a talented and creative partner who undertook the district’s vision. He listened to the many voices involved with the project and developed their ideas so that the final products truly represent the Mansfield Public Schools.”

Following the Special Olympics pre-games rally, Mansfield Public Schools students from kindergarten through high school will participate in a series of Special Olympics School Day Games. Opening Ceremonies begin at approximately 10:30 am. Athletes will rotate through 8 stations and will receive a swag bag filled with items to make the day special including a commemorative t-shirt.

Families, staff and students district-wide as well as alumni Special Olympics athletes are also invited to attend the event in support of student-athletes. The event is closed to the general public.

The fourth annual Special Olympics School Day Games is coordinated by the Mansfield Public Schools Special Education Department.
