North Reading Fire Department Quickly Extinguishes House Fire on Washington Street

NORTH READING — Chief Don Stats reports that the North Reading Fire Department quickly extinguished a house fire Monday evening.

At approximately 7:06 p.m., North Reading Fire responded to a home on Washington Street for reports of a fire. Upon entry and investigation, crews encountered heavy smoke coming from the third floor of the building and declared a working fire.

Due to the quick actions of firefighters, the fire was contained to the room of origin on the third floor.

There were no reported injuries. North Reading Fire Engine 1, Engine 2, Engine 3, Ladder 1, and Ambulance 2 responded to the scene.

Mutual aid assistance was provided on scene by the Middleton, Reading and Lynnfield Fire Departments. Station coverage was provided by Andover Fire and Wakefield Fire.

“Due to our increased staffing and proximity to this incident, we were able to quickly and efficiently extinguish the fire and keep it to its point of origin and stop it from expanding further,” said Chief Stats. “I also want to thank our mutual aid crews for their assistance during the call.”

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the North Reading Fire Department and the Massachusetts State Police Fire and Explosion Investigation Unit attached to the State Fire Marshal’s Office.
