NORTHBOROUGH – Police Chief Brian Griffin reports that the Northborough Police Department responded to two significant motor vehicle crashes on Tuesday.
On Tuesday, Aug. 11, at approximately 1:40 p.m., Northborough Police and Fire responded to the Northborough Post Office, 235 West Main St., for reports of a vehicle that crashed into the building.
Upon arrival, officers located a single vehicle that appeared to have crashed directly into the post office building. The driver of the vehicle was transported to an area hospital by Northborough Fire Department for what are believed to be minor injuries.
The building sustained significant damage and postal operations were shut down for the remainder of the day.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation by Northborough Police.
At 3:22 p.m., Northborough Police and Fire responded to Main Street, near Route 20, for reports of a two-vehicle head-on crash.
Upon arrival, first responders located two vehicles that sustained significant damage. One of the operators was transported to an area hospital by Northborough Fire with what are believed to be serious injuries. The operator of the other vehicle was transported with what are believed to be minor injuries.
The Central Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council (CEMLEC) Crash Reconstruction Unit also responded to the scene.
The roadway was shut down for several hours and was reopened around 8 p.m.
The crash remains under investigation by Northborough Police and CEMLEC.
