Tyngsborough Police Department To Summons 63-year-old Man to Court to Face Charge of Impersonating a Police Officer

TYNGSBOROUGH — The Tyngsborough Police Department intends to summons a 63-year-old Tyngsborough man to Lowell District Court to face a charge of impersonating a police officer.

TYNGSBOROUGH — The Tyngsborough Police Department intends to summons a 63-year-old Tyngsborough man to Lowell District Court to face a charge of impersonating a police officer.

On Wednesday, July 8, at approximately 6:30 p.m., Tyngsborough Police were called to Lake Mascuppic for a report that an unauthorized individual was operating the Tyngsborough Police Marine Unit on the lake.

Officers arrived and observed a resident operating the police boat with its lights activated. The 63-year-old returned the boat to its dock when told to do so by police.

A caller reported the resident had earlier attempted to enforce town boating bylaws while operating the boat, and had ordered several people to leave the lake.

As a result of an investigation conducted in consultation with Massachusetts Environmental Police and the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office, Tyngsborough Police intend to issue a summons to the 63-year-old to appear in Lowell District Court.

A clerk-magistrate will determine at a later date whether there is enough evidence for the criminal charge to proceed to arraignment.

The Town of Tyngsborough has removed the boat from the dock where it was secured at the lake to prevent further unauthorized access.

These are allegations. All defendants are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
