WHITMAN — The Whitman Fire Department announces the retirement of Chief Timothy Clancy on July 10 after 35 years of dedicated service to the Town of Whitman.
Chief Clancy began his career with Whitman Fire / Rescue in 1991 as an 18-year-old senior in high school serving as a call firefighter. He became a full-time firefighter in 1997, was promoted to lieutenant in 2008, and was appointed Fire Chief in July 2021.
“What started as an opportunity to serve my hometown became a lifelong commitment to the safety and well-being of Whitman’s citizens,” Chief Clancy wrote in his retirement letter to the Select Board.
In addition to leading the Department, Chief Clancy has served as an instructor with the Massachusetts Fire Academy and previously taught emergency medical services and paramedic training. He is a Certified Fire Officer Levels 1, 2 and 3, and a Certified Fire Instructor Levels 1 and 2.
He is also a graduate of the Massachusetts Fire Academy/Edward J. Collins Center for Public Management Chief Fire Officer Program and holds numerous certifications from both the Massachusetts Fire Academy and the National Fire Academy. Chief Clancy earned a master’s degree in fire science from Anna Maria College.
“It has been the honor of a lifetime to serve the community where I grew up,” said Chief Clancy. “I have been fortunate to spend my entire career alongside an outstanding group of firefighters, paramedics and officers whose dedication to this community inspires me every day. I am grateful to the Select Board, Town leadership and the residents of Whitman for the trust they placed in me throughout my career. While I am looking forward to retirement, I will always be proud to have served this town.”
Chief Clancy’s retirement will take effect on July 10. Deputy Fire Chief Nicholas Grasso will serve as Acting Chief until the Select Board appoints a replacement.
