NEWBURY – The Newbury Fire Department and mutual aid partners responded amid high heat Wednesday to a small fire in an HVAC system in a home’s attic.
On Wednesday, July 1, at 12:18 p.m., the Newbury Fire Department was called to a home on Orchard Street for a report of smoke in the building.
Firefighters arrived to discover a haze of smoke in the building, and learned that four residents had evacuated. Companies were able to quickly determine that the smoke was caused by a small fire that burned itself out in the HVAC system in the home’s attic.
Firefighters ensured the fire was out and vented smoke from the home. The Town of Newbury Electrical Inspector worked with Newbury Fire to identify possible issues with the HVAC system.
There were no reported injuries, and residents were able to return to their home.
Newbury Police assisted with traffic on Orchard Street. Firefighters from Newburyport, Georgetown and Rowley provided mutual aid at the scene, as did the Georgetown Chief, a Newburyport Deputy Chief, and the Amesbury Chief. Firefighters from Groveland, Boxford and Amesbury covered the Byfield Station, while firefighters from Salisbury covered the Newbury Station.
“A large and efficient mutual aid response enabled us to keep our firefighters and community safe while responding to a fire in an attic amid today’s high heat,” said Chief Evans. “I want to thank all of our mutual aid partners for their dependable support and teamwork.”
