TAUNTON — Taunton Fire crews extinguished a structure fire at a single-family home on Liberty Street overnight.

At 1:41 a.m., Thursday, June 4, dispatch received a 911 call reporting a confirmed structure fire at 50 Liberty St.

Taunton Fire Department initially dispatched Car 2, Ladder 3, and Engines 9, 3 and 1. On the way to the fire scene, the Department received multiple calls of a resident possibly trapped in the basement. In response, Taunton Fire dispatched a fourth engine (Engine 4).

Taunton firefighters arrived to find heavy fire and smoke conditions at the home, a straight-level ranch with an attached garage. Upon arrival, all occupants were outside the home and uninjured.

Taunton Fire launched an interior attack, finding and extinguishing the fire.

“Our crews opened up the roof and put a ton of water into it,” said Taunton Fire Chief Steven P. Lavigne. “But after we put it out, the house was a total loss.”

Three residents were displaced by the fire.

The Taunton Emergency Management Agency (TEMA) is working with the residents to find them temporary housing.

No injuries were reported, to residents or firefighters.

The fire is currently under investigation by both Taunton Fire and Taunton Police Departments.
