Dennis Police and Town Officials Ask for Extra Patience from Motorists During Wastewater Construction Road Closures June 1-5

The Town of Dennis and Dennis Police Department announce several road and intersection closures during daytime hours Monday, June 1, through Friday, June 5.

DENNIS — The Town of Dennis and the Dennis Police Department are asking motorists to allow for extra time traveling through town, and to seek alternate routes when possible, as a vital construction project closes several roads during daytime hours from Monday, June 1, through Friday, June 5.

The Town is implementing Phase 1 of the Town’s Comprehensive Wastewater Management Plan (CWMP), which includes construction of a Water Resource Recovery Facility (WRRF) and approximately 16 miles of a new wastewater collection system.

“This work will enhance water quality in local watersheds and improve long-term environmental conditions at local ponds and coastal beaches on Nantucket Sound,” said Town Administrator Elizabeth Sullivan. “In the meantime, we ask for a little extra patience from motorists, residents and business owners as crews work to complete construction activities within the Highbank Road intersection area as quick as possible. While we are targeting completion of this phase of work by June 5, weather conditions may impact the construction schedule.”

Officers will be directing traffic, and construction will primarily affect the following routes:

  • The Highbank Road/Main Street intersection in South Dennis will be closed to through traffic from June 1-5, during daytime working hours, to facilitate construction of the collection system.
  • Highbank Road will be closed from Great Western Road in Yarmouth to Route 134 in Dennis, from approximately 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Main Street will be closed from Old Bass River Road to Duck Pond Road.

Residents who live near the Highbank Road/Main Street intersection will have access to their homes during working hours but will not be able to pass through the intersection during working hours. The roadway will be open to all traffic outside of working hours for that week.

Contractors are prohibited from working on Route 28 until after the Labor Day weekend.

Prior construction areas from the Bass River Bridge east to the Route 134 intersection will now be free of any traffic restrictions and detours.

Resumption of construction activities following Labor Day weekend will continue to be chronicled under the weekly Wastewater Project Updates available on the Town of Dennis website. Residents and business owners are encouraged to visit the website to view updates and sign up to receive weekly project updates directly by email.

“I’d like to thank our residents and motorists in advance for their continued patience and support as we work hard to keep life moving while these important infrastructure improvements are made,” said Police Chief John Brady. “This process will be much easier with the complete cooperation of our community — residents and visitors alike, working together.”
