NEWMARKET — The Newmarket Police Department is informing the public of an ongoing investigation into vandalism, several motor vehicle break-ins and the theft of a firearm that involves several Newmarket juveniles.

An investigation into the incidents remains ongoing, but Newmarket Police reassure the community that there is no ongoing danger to anyone in town.

Overnight Saturday, May 23 and Sunday, May 24, Newmarket Police were notified of vandalism at the town’s recreation fields, as well as several motor vehicle break-ins.

An investigation into those incidents is ongoing. A review of video surveillance led to the identification of possible suspects who are juveniles.

Residents continued to report vehicle break-ins continued on Monday and Tuesday, May 25 and 26. On the morning of Wednesday, May 27, an individual reported that they had discovered their firearm had been removed from their unlocked vehicle. A subsequent investigation determined that the weapon was taken over the weekend, at about the same time as other reported incidents.

The School Resource Officer was made aware of the investigation and the involvement of juveniles from the community out of an abundance of caution.

Police have determined that the juveniles involved transferred the firearm to a juvenile in another community.  Newmarket Police are working with law enforcement in that community, and the firearm has been recovered.

Police expect to file charges against the juveniles once their investigation is completed.

Newmarket Police will have no further comment at this time, as the investigation is ongoing and involves juveniles.
