ATTLEBORO — Wamsutta Middle School is pleased to share that the Drama Club, in partnership with Musical Theatre International and Wamsutta PTO, recently hosted a sold-out performance of “Shrek the Musical Jr.”
A cast and crew of over 40 students took to the stage on April 15 and 16 to participate in Wamsutta’s first stage musical.
Students first auditioned in November and rehearsed their lines, music and choreography up until opening night. The Drama Club also collaborated with the eighth grade Art Club, which created art and set designs for the production.
“We were thrilled by the success of Wamsutta’s first stage musical and would like to thank everyone who attended the show,” said Principal Kevin Atkinson. “Thanks to the community’s support, the Drama Club will be able to perform another show next school year. We are looking forward to seeing what our students do next.”
The Drama Club received support from teachers, paraprofessionals, custodians, clerks, administrators, parents and alumni throughout the production.
The leading cast included:
- Grace Goodwin as Shrek (grade 8)
- Adelynn Borges as Princess Fiona (grade 6)
- Jacob Platt as Donkey (grade 8)
- Julianna Murphy as Lord Farquaad (grade 6)
- Melody Dumornay as the Dragon (grade 7)
Staff on the production team included:
- Co-Director and Choreographer: Joy Geysen
- Co-Director and Music Director: Chris Hoskins
- Crew Chief: Christina Ayrassian
- Assistant Crew Chief: Eric Duquette
- Art Director: Tovah Stevenson
“We are so proud of all of the students and staff involved in ‘Shrek the Musical Jr.,” said Superintendent David Sawyer. “Organizing a show is never easy, but putting on a stage production for the first time is especially difficult. We were especially excited to learn that the musical had sold out, and wish to congratulate the cast and crew on a job well done.”
