NORWOOD — Superintendent David Thomson, Principal Steven Olsen and the Norwood PTO are pleased to share that students at the Oldham Elementary School recently participated in the school’s first PTO Read-a-Thon event.
The Read-A-Thon kicked off on Wednesday, Nov. 1 and concluded on Thursday, Nov. 30.
This is the first year Oldham Elementary School has held the Oldham PTO Read-A-Thon, which encourages students to read beyond the required textbook reading.
As part of the event, students read as many books as they can throughout the month of November. Students sought sponsorship from family, friends and supporters who donated money for every book students read, using an online sponsorship page.
The Norwood PTO worked in conjunction with the library to ensure all students had access to books and used the fundraiser to help advance school reading goals as well as fund future enrichment activities.
This year, students raised over $6,200, thanks to online donations. Kerrie Pritchard’s Class raised over $1,000 and won a classroom scholarship of $100. Funds raised from the event will be used to pay for future field trips and classroom supplies.
All students who participated in the fundraiser will receive an Oldham Elementary School pencil and bookmark.
The top two earners per grade will receive a gift card for raising the highest amount of money through donations.
Additionally, the third grade will be awarded a pizza party for raising the most amount of money as a grade.
“I would like to congratulate all of our students who participated in this year’s Read-a-Thon event and worked especially hard to further their literacy skills,” said Superintendent Thomson. “I would also like to extend my gratitude to the Norwood PTO, which has been an integral part of the school fundraising effort each year.”
