ACTON 一 Town Manager John S. Mangiaratti, Economic Development Director Julie Pierce, and Sustainability Director Andrea Becerra are pleased to announce that the Town of Acton will launch a new grant program to help Acton businesses and multi-family property owners install energy efficiency upgrades.
The new program, the Acton Business and Multi-Family Energy Efficiency Grant Program (ABMEEG), will provide eligible businesses and multi-family property owners in Acton with grants up to a maximum of $2,000 to help improve energy efficiency.
The Acton Select Board approved $30,000 of the Town’s American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funding to help create ABMEEG.
“Sometimes people assume that goals of sustainability and business are opposing; however, this program is an opportunity to reduce your environmental impact without taking on substantial costs,” said Pierce. “This is helpful for businesses because making your physical space more energy efficient will lower your overhead costs permanently.”
One of the key requirements of the program is to conduct a Mass Save Audit that identifies potential energy efficiency savings, all of which will be eligible for reimbursement through the program.
“According to Mass Save, proper insulation and air sealing can reduce heating and cooling costs by approximately 20 percent,” said Becerra. “This is a great opportunity to improve a building’s comfort, save money, and reduce carbon emissions.”
The grant process requires an application, explanation of how the funds will be used, and copies of required documents.
Grant applications are open now and the deadline to apply is April 21. Grant awards will be announced on May 22.
Grants will be provided in the form of reimbursements for approved expenses from Feb. 23, 2023, through Feb. 26, 2024.
“The Acton Business and Multi-Family Energy Efficiency Grant Program will be a great way for our community to become more energy efficient,” said Town Manager Mangiaratti. “The program is another step toward Acton’s goal of reducing emissions in line with the Climate Action Plan.”
