CANAAN — Superintendent Amanda Isabelle and Director of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment Angel Burke proudly share that the Mascoma Valley Regional School District will receive grants to support elementary school literacy efforts in the coming school year.
Enfield Village School and Canaan Elementary School each will receive a $25,000 Year of the Book grant from the Children’s Literacy Foundation (CLiF), which supports literacy education for low-income, at-risk, and rural children in grades PreK-6 in New Hampshire and Vermont.
Grants are used to develop programs to create a culture of literacy and encourage reading and writing. Grants also support visits by authors and storytellers, and will supply new books to each school library and to the Enfield Public Library and Canaan Town Library.
CLiF staff will provide support in arranging logistics and integrating low-cost literacy programs, connecting school administrators with past and present school coordinators, and providing additional CLiF resources.
Each student in both schools will choose 10 new books to keep.
The District received a CLiF grant for the current school year.
“The 2021-22 CLiF grant at Indian River School was used to engage students in conversations with authors, provide choices of texts for them, and focus the year on the importance of literacy,” Director Burke said. “We are delighted to have the opportunity to make these connections at Canaan Elementary School and Enfield Village School during the 2022-23 school year.”
